Patty Murray announces 2022 reelection campaign

SEATTLE — Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., has officially announced the launch of her 2022 reelection campaign.

In a video released Monday, Murray said when she got her start in politics, she was “just a mom in tennis shoes” before she was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992.

She currently serves as the Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and also as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations, Budget, and Veteran Affairs Committees.

Murray also recently helped craft major portions of the American Rescue Plan, bringing billions of federal dollars to Washington state.

In response, the Steven Johnson, the Communications Director for the Washington state Republican party, released the following statement:

“Patty Murray may have started off as the Mom in Tennis Shoes but after thirty years she is just another D.C. insider who is more concerned with catering to special interests than listening to the voters of Washington state,” said WSRP Chairman Caleb Heimlich. “Murray’s announcement video highlights an elected official who has been in office far too long, who is desperately clinging to what she has done in the past, and only offers vague platitudes on what she would do if elected to a 6th term. Early polling has shown the people of Washington want change in leadership, with just 31% of polled voters suggesting that she should run for reelection.”
