SEATTLE — The Alaskan Way Viaduct is back open this morning after being shut down for most of the weekend. Starting Monday, a number of parking spaces will be eliminated permanently near the Downtown Seattle waterfront.
Construction is set to begin Monday as part of the new 99 tunnel project along Alaskan way from Pike Street to Yesler Way.
The parking will be removed so crews can put in new traffic and pedestrian striping as part of a new road alignment when the viaduct actually comes down.
The work will be done both during the day and at night, with some lane closures expected.

If you do need to be along the waterfront, do plan accordingly. It may take you more time to get around the construction, and parking will be more restricted.
On Jan/ 11, the Alaskan Way Viaduct will close for good and Highway 99 through Seattle will be inaccessible for about six weeks.
When it does reopen, it will run on the new Highway 99 tunnel under downtown Seattle.
