Mount St. Helens climbing permits now on sale

Mount St. Helens climbing permits went on sale at 7 a.m. Monday.

While permits are required year-round for all climbers, the number of climbers between April 1 and Oct. 1 is limited to protect the volcano’s natural resources.

The permits for the April-October period are available on a first-come first-served basis for $15 per person with a $6 fee per permit reservation. Climbing groups are limited to 12 people per permit.

“Climbing to the summit of Mount St. Helens is a unique way for people to experience and appreciate the beauty of this amazing landscape,” said Mount St. Helens Monument Ranger Rebecca Hoffman.

Those interested in securing a permit will need to enter the names of all climbers in their group. Each climber will then need to carry their identification to match the list on the permit.

Permit holders will be able to change the members of the climbing group, cancel or refund their permit until 14 days before their scheduled climb.

Climbers will also have the option of showing a digitally downloaded version of their permit – instead of a paper copy.
