King County Metro will briefly pause all bus service Monday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

At 4:04 p.m.,  Metro and Metro-operated Sound Transit buses in King County will pull over and stop when it is safe to do so.

Buses on freeways, in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel or on roads where there is no safe place to pull over will not participate.

King County Metro will briefly pause all bus service at 4:04 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, for a moment of reflection and remembrance to honor the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to mark the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

Metro says about 975 commute time Metro and Metro-operated Sound Transit buses will be in service at that time. The majority will pull over and stop.

King County was originally named after William Rufus King, then renamed in 1986 by the county council after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to honor his legacy.  The renaming of the county did not become official until legislation succeeded in 2005. After a design process, a new logo was unveiled in 2007.
