Maxwell working at right cornerback again; Marshall shines at practice

RENTON, Wash. — Byron Maxwell is back and working with the starters at right cornerback for the first time in a while.

Maxwell, who started at right cornerback in 2013-2014 and started a few games with the Seahawks last season, is one of the original members of the "Legion of Boom."

"It reminds me like old times, obviously,” said Maxwell. “But I'm the vet now so it's crazy. It's coming back full circle, but it feels good to be back out here man with this program."

With Earl Thomas still holding out and Kam Chancellor not playing this season, one of those spots in the secondary will go to Bradley McDougald.

"I've totally transitioned my mind to strong safety,” said McDougald. “I mean, I know free safety. There's times if the offensive line is too fast that I will have to line up and play free safety and Tedric [Thompson] will play strong safety."

As the 12s wait for Thomas to return, Russell Wilson said the six-time Pro Bowler is the "best safety to ever step on the field."

"I believe that he'll be ready to play when he decides to – if he decides to come back – and if he's ready to roll," said Wilson.

One of the big takeaways from practice on Thursday was Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin running through a few individual drills. And when it was all over, Wilson said he has a lot of confidence in what Baldwin is able to do this season.

"We're missing one of the best receivers in the National Football League in Doug Baldwin, you know? He's a star,” said Wilson. “We know that he's going to be super sharp when he comes back in. He knows the offense."

Since Baldwin has been out, veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been able to get more touches at practice.

"He knows how to play at the highest level,” said Wilson. “He looked really, really good today and made a lot of great catches. [He] caught the ball in the end zone, made some great catches in the field today. It's showing up. He's working his tail off."
