REDMOND, Wash. — KIRO-7 has learned the identity of the man who police say attacked a woman on a trail near Redmond Marymoor Park last summer.

The prosecutor's office charged 33 year-old Charles Raymond Stockwell Jr.  with assault in the first degree.

Stockwell was arrested for residential burglary in Thurston County on Aug. 8th, three days after the attack at Marymoor Park.

His competency is in question and court documents show he is currently being evaluated at Western State Hospital.

According to court documents Stockwell told the victim "he had to do it and that he was going to kill her."

The victim fought back and screamed.

A man walking on the trail went to see who was screaming and investigators say Stockwell ran off.

Detectives say Stockwell was linked to the crime through DNA on the shoelace Stockwell used to try to strangle the victim.

According to the police report, Stockwell is a transient, he told his victim during the attack he was hungry.

They believe he planned to sexually assault possibly kill his victim.

Court documents say Stockwell took a ferry to Seattle on Seafair weekend to try to sell some auto parts.

Stockwell will be arraigned on the charges March 1.
