Man turns himself in to police for Renton-area shooting

KING COUNTY, Wash. — A 20-year-old Maple Valley Man was booked into the King County Jail on assault charges after turning himself in to detectives for a shooting in the Fairwood neighborhood in the Renton area.

The shooting in a shopping complex parking lot at Southeast 140th and Petrovitsky on Monday injured a 21-year-old Kent man.

Detectives learned that there had been a disagreement between the suspect and victim inside a nearby gym. After the two left the gym, the suspect confronted the victim near his car and shot him.

Detectives said they believed that the gunman tried to fire more rounds, but the gun jammed.

The next day, police received a phone call from the suspect’s attorney saying that he wanted to turn himself in.  Detectives met the suspect and his attorney near the scene of the shooting.  The suspect did not provide a statement, but lead them to a backpack with a gun inside, not far from the shooting scene.

Police believe the gunman ran from the scene and hid the gun and backpack in that location.

The man was later booked into the King County Jail Tuesday on first-degree assault charges.

The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering from a gunshot wound to his right bicep.
