Man arrested for sexual attack at Bainbridge High School

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — A man is accused of voyeurism and sexual assaults on Bainbridge Island on Wednesday, police said.
Police Chief Matt Hamner said it forced his officers and law enforcement to take decisive action to track down a suspect who posed a danger to the community.

The incident started at Bainbridge High School.

Police said people noticed a man go into the school without permission and enter a girl's bathroom. The suspect is accused of assaulting a student there and committing voyeurism.

The man then got in his car and drove off. Hamner said he hit a police officer who was trying to stop the suspect.

“We didn't feel that we had any option but to do everything we could to bring him into custody I wasn't going to have another victim,” Hamner said.

Images captured by witnesses showed the moments when police subdued the suspect who had lead officers on a chase.

Mike Buscher said he is visiting Bainbridge Island, and saw the chase end, and the arrest play out in the 200 block of Wyatt Way, “They approached him with guns drawn, it wasn't like they were walking up and giving him a ticket or anything you could tell it was serious.”

Once the suspect’s vehicle was cornered officers had to shatter glass, drag him out, and Hamner said the suspect may have even dared officers to shoot.

Buscher said the suspect did not go quietly, “They kind of wrestled with him a little bit and they called for a hog tie and they tied him up.”

Another witness, Angelo Bellah, said saw the incident across the street, “Tt was interesting it was exciting you don't get this kind of action on Bainbridge (Island) that's for sure.”

Hamner said the suspect is now in Kitsap County Jail.
