Leonetti is listed as an associate coach of the Bellingham Slam, a semi-professional basketball team, on their website and is an employee of Western Washington University (WWU)’s Wade King student recreation center.
After preliminary investigation by Bellingham police, Leonetti was released because probable cause for an arrest had not been developed. WWU placed Leonetti on administrative leave as a result of the investigation.
On Wednesday, Bellingham police were advised through the Spokane Police Department that Leonetti was found dead Monday in a hotel room within their city limits. Leonetti’s death is an apparent suicide, according to investigators.
"We recognize the seriousness of these allegations,” said Bellingham police Chief David Doll. “Our department will dedicate all available resources and expertise to identify any potential victims from the evidence we have seized and ensure no further harm is done."
Bellingham police are continuing the investigation to identify other additional victims.
