FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Firefighters were at the scene of a house fire in Federal Way where a woman was feared dead after she could not be found by firefighters.
Crews from South King County Fire & Rescue were called to the home on 310th Street near Seventh Avenue Southwest north of Mirror Lake at 5 a.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived, the home was fully involved in flames.
As of 6 a.m., the home was still smoking. The fire has since been put out.
Neighbors say the house belongs to a man in his 40s and his mother, who is in her 80s. They say the woman has a caretaker and spends most of her time in the home because she has limited mobility.
Firefighters say they don’t believe the man was home at the time of the fire because his car is not there, but they were unsure if the woman in her 80s was trapped inside. Firefighters searched the bedrooms but were unable to immediately search the parts of the home that were destroyed in the fire.
Once police were able to contact her son, he told officers his mother was out of town and was safe.
