A 69-year-old woman who owns a psychic reading business in Skagit County was arrested for first-degree theft by deception.

Police said last month, on September 20, a resident of Island County reported to the Mount Vernon Police Department that she turned over a large sum of money to the suspect in return for the psychic’s services of “spiritual cleansing and destroying evil energy.”

“The psychic initially informed the victim the money would be returned when her work was complete,” Lieutenant Greg Booth said in a statement. “The victim attempted to get her money back, but was told by the psychic she needed to bring additional money in order for all of the money to be returned.”

The victim sought assistance from a private investigator from Florida who specializes in similar cases, according to police. That investigator met with Mount Vernon police and Seattle police investigators

“Detectives were able to build a case and obtained a search warrant for the business which was served yesterday, October 30, 2017,” Booth said. “During the warrant service, the 69-year old female suspect was arrested and later booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center.  Detectives also recovered business and personal financial records, which will assist them as the investigation continues.”

Detectives are asking that anyone who may have information on this case or another case involving this business to contact the Mount Vernon Police Department at (360) 336-6271.
