KIRO 7 to broadcast Seafair Torchlight Parade, Fourth of July fireworks

KIRO 7 will broadcast the Fourth of July fireworks and the Torchlight Parade as part of the summer Seafair celebration, continuing a 32-years partnership with Seafair.

“We are grateful to KIRO for their continued partnership in broadcasting the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Summer 4th fireworks show and the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade,” Seafair President and CEO Richard Andersen said. “Being able to bring our events to a broader TV audience is an important part of what we do for the greater Seattle audience.”

KIRO 7’s live Fourth of July coverage begins at 9 p.m. on TV, hosted by Steve Raible and Monique Ming Laven. The broadcast will also include traffic reporter Tracy Taylor in Chopper 7 and chief meteorologist Morgan Palmer pinpointing the weather.

The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., and the live broadcast will conclude at 11 p.m. Both the fireworks show and the Torchlight Parade broadcasts will be livestreamed on KIRO7.com, the KIRO 7 News App and KIRO 7 Smart TV apps, including Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

The live broadcast of the 69th annual Torchlight Parade starts at 8 p.m. July 28 and continues until 10 p.m. The show, hosted by Raible and Laven, will capture more than 100 parade entries from across the Northwest and Canada. The parade Grand Marshal is Jordan Morris, a Seattle native and Seattle Sounders FC forward.

KIRO’s coverage of Seafair does not include the Sunday hydroplane races. Andersen said an announcement about the broadcast of the Seafair Weekend Festival on August 3-5 will be made soon.

KIRO will continue to livestream the Blue Angels on the news app, KIRO 7 Smart TV apps and kiro7.com.

“This was a thoughtful decision done in lockstep with Seafair to provide them the opportunity to pursue alternate options and/or develop a new approach for that event,” KIRO 7 General Manager Greg Bilte wrote Wednesday in an email to staff. “We remain committed to delivering live, local content to our viewers and our dedication to making a positive impact on our community is a top priority, so thank you for your hard work and contributions to making this partnership a success.”
