Kaepernick: 'Let's make America great again for the first time'

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick talked to CNN about the first presidential debate.

"To me, it was embarrassing to watch. Both are proven liars and it almost seems like they're trying to debate who's less racist," Kaepernick told reporters in a locker room interview on Tuesday.

"[Trump] always says, 'Make America great again.' Well, America has never been great for people of color and that's something that needs to be addressed. Let's make America great for the first time."

Kaepernick is refusing to stand for the national anthem before games because he believes the United States oppresses African Americans and other minorities.

On the eve of Donald Trump's Tuesday campaign rally at the Xfinity Arena in Everett, the Republican presidential candidate spoke with KIRO Radio's Dori Monson on a variety of topics, including Kaepernick's national anthem protest.

“I have followed it and I think it’s personally not a good thing, I think it’s a terrible thing. And maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try. It won’t happen,” Trump said.

Kaepernick called Trump's statement ignorant on Tuesday.

"Very ignorant statement that if you don't agree with what's going on here and that if you want justice and liberty and freedom for all that you should leave the country," Kaepernick said.

As for who Kaepernick will vote for in November, he says he watched the first bit of the debate and he’s not impressed with Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
