Juniper Fire nearly out, fire officials say

KLICKITAT COUNTY, Wash. — The Juniper fire burning in the Pine Creek drainage area in Klickitat County is nearly out, the Southeast Washington Interagency said.

Officials said firefighters spent Saturday completing a 100% containment line around the fire.

Strike crews and hand crews kept the fire from spreading up the drainage toward the town of Bickleton, officials said. However, the wildfire burned a wind turbine owned by Avan Grid.

More than 200 people were working to contain the fire; they faced challenges like periodic wind gusts up to 28 mph at times, and low relative humidity on Saturday, officials said.

Firefighters are expected to monitor and patrol the fire overnight and are ready to finish mopping up and establishing the containment line Monday.

More than 200 acres of land have burned so far.
