After Trump attack on Muslim American military family, Gov. Inslee demands rival disavow GOP nominee

SEATTLE — Gov. Jay Inslee is slamming Donald Trump and calling on his Republican rival to disavow the GOP presidential nominee.

Inslee's move is a prime example of how Democrats are trying to tie Trump to local Republican candidates.

Governor Inslee rallied campaign volunteers in Federal Way Monday morning

The mother and father of Capt. Humayun Khan, a fallen Iraq War hero, and their treatment by Trump have become part of Inslee’s stump speech.

“This worst thing he has done. The thing that is unacceptable in this country is to challenge the sincerity of a Gold Star mother,” Inslee said.

So Inslee is issuing a new demand to Republican rival Bill Bryant.

“It is long past time for my opponent, Bill Bryant, to stop hiding under a rock and come out and disavow Donald Trump for President of the United States."

Inslee's just talking about Trump to avoid talking about his record, Bryant said in a statement Monday. That's similar to what he told us in June.

“At the end of the day he's (Inslee) not running against Donald Trump, he's running against me. And he's going to have to run on his record,” Bryant said.

Asked if he is hiding behind the Trump issue because his governorship is failing, Inslee responded, “Well the law enforcement people of this state don't believe that, I'm proud to have the endorsement of every law enforcement organization.”

For the record, Bryant did not disavow Trump Monday.

So we asked the chairman of the Washington state Republican Party if Trump has gone too far.

“I don't know what goes on in Donald Trump’s head,” replied state party Chairwoman Susan Hutchison

Hutchison is both the daughter and wife of men who have served in the military, so she knows on a personal level the sacrifices that military families make.

Asked if Trump has as gone too far, Hutchison responded,

“Well I certainly think Donald Trump has a unique way of dealing with those who criticized him. And I'll let him speak for himself.”

Trump is getting strong support from some for his response to the Khan family.
