How safe is your water? New database tells you

There’s a new tool you can use to take a look at what may be in your drinking water.

After high levels of lead were found at some Tacoma public schools last year, people want to know more about what they're drinking.

A database from the Environmental Working Group allows anyone to type in their zip code and learn exactly what their utility has reported to state and local authorities.

Earlier this year, KIRO 7 reported on pink water being found in some cities in Eastern Washington resulting from a chemical found in the water.

The database from the EWG uses reports filed with the Environmental Protection Agency and state regulators by your local utility between 2010 and 2015 to break down what could be in your drinking water.

Researchers working with the EWG say your tap water can contain industrial and agricultural contaminants linked to cancer and developmental defects.

If you want to take a closer look at what's in your water, follow this link to EWG's database.
