Two women were riding their horses across the Snohomish River when one rider began having problems.
Crews from Duvall King County Fire District 45 and the Snohomish County Fire District 7 Washington State Animal Response Team managed to get the riders and one horse safely out of the Snohomish River Monday.
The second horse is currently at the base of a cliff on the river that with the current, was inaccessible in the dark Monday night, rescuers said.
Rescue crews will return Tuesday to save the second horse.
They say it spent the night with food on dry land and is not hurt.
