Police arrived at the scene and found that there were no houses in the area, but after tracking the phone that made the initial call, GPS indicated the phone was close by.

The phone did not have regular cellphone service attached to it, and therefore was only able to call 911. Law enforcement agencies were unable to determine a subscriber name or other information.

Officers from the Hoquiam Police Department, as well personnel from other departments nearby searched the area in an attempt to find the caller. They also went door to door at houses in adjacent neighborhoods.

Police eventually found the man on a hillside a substantial distance from the roadway. Aid was administered but was unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

Several pieces of evidence were collected at the scene, including a firearm, which appeared to have been discharged.

Investigators said the identity of the man has not been verified.

The case remains under investigation and police are not looking for or seeking a suspect.
