Hood Canal Bridge reopened after Monday afternoon closure

The Hood Canal Bridge is a floating bridge located that carries drivers on State Route 104, connecting the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. It is 7,869 feet and was opened in 1961.

The Hood Canal Bridge reopened about 4:30 p.m. Monday after a brief closure due to high winds.

The bridge closed about 3:45 p.m. Monday in both directions.

The bridge, which is 7,869 feet, opened in 1961 and connects the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. The west half was reconstructed in the early 1980s and the east half replacement was completed in 2009.

Part of the bridge also sank in a February 1979 windstorm.
