Full staffing to resume after strike at Green River College

AUBURN, Wash. — Green River College officials say they expect full instructional and other staffing to resume Thursday after a three-day strike.

Faculty members held the strike to protest cuts proposed by administration.

The community college said in a Wednesday news release it looks forward to faculty recommendations for programs previously identified for potential reductions.

Eleven programs and courses could potentially be affected due to a $4 million budget shortfall.

The college says it must eliminate or make cuts to some programs because of state budget cutbacks and declining enrollment, but striking instructors say it's using state cutbacks as an excuse for gutting the union, which is part of the American Federation of Teachers.

College officials say faculty will be able to reschedule missed classes for students.
