First Avenue S Bridge gets stuck in open position

SEATTLE — The southbound First Avenue South Bridge in South Seattle was stuck in the open position Monday morning.

Northbound traffic was not affected.

The Washington State Department of Transporation first tweeted about the problem at 9:36 a.m.

WSDOT cameras showed the bridge returning to its normal position at about 10 a.m.

During the problem, some southbound traffic turned around to get off the bridge in the wrong direction, while semi-trucks and other large vehicles that were unable to turn around, remained in place.

When the bridge started going down, vehicles that were pointed the wrong direction, again turned around to head south again.

WSDOT maintenance crews are going to inspect the bridge to determine the problem.
