Fire uncovers pot grow operation in Skyway

KING COUNTY, Wash. — King County deputies are looking into a grow operation that went up in flames at a house in Skyway early Monday morning.

The home is near 66th Avenue South and South Langston.

Firefighters said the fire was reported at 1 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, there was no one inside the home, but they discovered a marijuana grow operation.

The determination of the legality of the grow operation will fall on King County deputies.

Neighbors said they saw a man try to put out the fire, but he ran away before police arrived.

One neighbor said he also tried to put the fire out with his garden hose to protect his house.

Firefighters said the flames were caused by an electrical fire.

Deputies are working to determine the identity of the owners of the house and said the grow operation was extensive, with hundreds of marijuana plants inside.
