Find out if you have COVID-19 antibodies by donating blood to Bloodworks Northwest

SEATTLE — Are you wondering if you have COVID-19 antibodies?

You can find out by donating blood to Bloodworks Northwest from now until Sept. 30.

Officials said the antibodies test results are mailed to donors within two weeks of their donation. Plasma from donations that test positive for antibodies will likely be designated for COVID-19 patients, officials said.

Bloodworks will follow up with patients whose donation tests positive to see if they can make a convalescent plasma donation to further help patients.

“Local hospitals are counting on all of us to ensure an ample blood supply this summer,” said Vicki Finson, Bloodworks’ executive vice president of blood services. “Providing COVID-19 antibody testing indicates for donors if they had previous exposure and infection whether they realized it or not and if they have the special ability to help build a supply of convalescent plasma to treat patients with serious or immediately life-threatening COVID-19 infections.”

Appointments are required at any Bloodworks donor center or pop-up location.

“Every eligible donor must come forward so we can treat as many patients as possible in our community,” Finson said.
