A family from Japan was denied by American Airlines when they needed to change their flights because of an emergency.
The family was visiting family in Olympia and on the trip back their 9-month-old child fell extremely ill and is currently receiving specialized emergency care at a children's hospital in Portland.
Due to the illness, the family needed to make different arrangements to get home, so they went to American Airlines to request a change to their plane ticket home.
The family said the airline denied their request when they called and they were out thousands, despite their medical hardship.
Reporter Henry Rosoff got involved and reached out to American Airlines.
An hour after the call, American got their tickets refunded and waived any potential change fees.
American Airlines later said there was a misunderstanding.
