Tukwila hit-and-run victim's family pleads with driver to come forward

SEATTLE — Mallory Kasinec describes her baby brother this way.

"He's a great outdoorsman," she said.  "He loves hiking, camping. He goes snowboarding with his buddies every winter. Just really enjoys being outside."

But for the last week, the adventurer who grew up in Pennsylvania, has been lying in a bed at Harborview Medical Center. The life of 26-year-old Cody Breon hangs in the balance.

"We're talking to him but we're not sure if he understands us or not," said Kyle Kasinec, his brother-in-law.

"He's not talking back?" he was asked.

"He's not talking," Kasinec said.

Cody was with friends at a Mariners Game last Saturday night.  He hooked up with more friends later.  Then he disappeared.

This traffic cam video shows that at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Cody was walking along Tukwila International Boulevard.  The SUV veers off the roadway, then strikes him. The driver then uses a turn signal, returns to the lane and drives off.

"From where he was found, it looks like he was headed back to his friend's house," Kyle said, "where his vehicle was parked."

A good Samaritan came upon Cody two full hours later.  He was wedged into a fence.

"We're very, very thankful that somebody found him fairly soon after," Mallory said.

Tukwila police tell us they believe the driver was in a silver 2015 Toyota Rav4.  After hitting Cody, the vehicle likely had front end damage on the passenger side, maybe even signs of his blood.

"I mean he was just hanging out with his friends," Kyle said. "And then, next thing you know."

Now his family is doing what it can to help him pull through.

"People all over the country praying for him and hoping for the best for him," Mallory said.

"Friends and family everywhere," said Kyle.

"Yeah, and of course, the hospital here has been fantastic," Mallory. "And we're very thankful for the things that are going OK."

The family is asking anyone who recognizes the vehicle, or knows the driver, to call Tukwila police.  They hope the driver will come forward too.
