Family of Mukilteo party shooting victim, Anna Bui, creates scholarship

This Sunday marks one year since a gunman opened fire at a Mukilteo house party, killing three young people.
         
Anna Bui, 19, was killed along with two of her friends, Jordan Ebner and Jake Long.

The gunman, Allen Ivanov is now serving life in prison without parole for the crime.

“It’s almost a year and it’s crazy to think that she’s gone,” said Anny Bui.

Anny is Anna’s older sister. She said it’s been tough for the family over the past year, the family has found healing through setting up the “Anna Bui World of Hope” Scholarship fund with UW Bothell.  That’s where Anna was attending school with the goal of becoming a nurse.

The program will help pay for students to study abroad and travel, one of Anna’s biggest joys.

“We traveled together last summer and it’s the happiest we have seen her,” says Bui. “We wanted her legacy to live on, so that’s how it came about.”

To launch the scholarship and make it permanent, an effort is underway to raise $25,000. There’s a fundraising event happening on Thursday, August 3, at the Rosehill Community Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Anna’s older brother, David, says the support from the community has been amazing and this scholarship will help keep her memory alive in a positive way.

“It’s not to remember her for what tragically happened to her but also help a lot of people along the way,” says Bui.

The city of Mukilteo is also hosting a picnic at Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo this Sunday, July 30, from 1 p.m. to  4 p.m.  City officials want to build a new peace park to open within a year as a healing place for the community.
