Extra security at high school in wake of teen's shooting

SEATTLE — Extra security should be visible Tuesday at Garfield High School after a shooting occurred just feet away from the campus.

The suspect is still at large Tuesday morning.

The principal sent out a personal note to parents Monday night, assuring them that students’ safety is a priority and there will be both extra security and Seattle police around the school Tuesday morning.

Authorities are still looking for the suspect who opened fire near a playground behind Garfield Monday afternoon.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder.  He ran inside the teen center next door to the school for help.

The campus was then put on lockdown.

The suspect is described by police as a male, African American teenager about 5 feet 5 inches tall.

There is no word yet on the motive and no other students were hurt

The victim in this case is at Harborview. He is expected to recover.
