Drivers should be prepared for new traffic pattern on I-405 in Renton

RENTON, Wash. — A big traffic shift will happen this weekend at a busy interchange in Renton.

Drivers who use the interchange from Interstate 405 to State Route 167 may experience slowdowns, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours.

Currently, drivers exiting off I-405 have two ramps – one to get on Rainier Avenue in Renton and one to go onto southbound 167.

That setup will be changed for the next few months.

The two exits will be combined into one and drivers will have to watch for signs to stay on the far right if they want to get onto SR 167.

The change is being made to accommodate the ongoing construction to connect the I-405 carpool lanes to SR 167 HOV traffic.

The Washington State Department of Transportation says the new traffic pattern could start as early as this weekend.

The change is expected to be in the place through the summer.
