Deputies search for suspect after athletic equipment stolen from middle school

AUBURN, Wash. — Deputies with the King County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a man who they say stole athletic equipment from a middle school.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, officials said the man drove his truck onto the Sequoya Middle School grounds and parked behind a portable classroom.

The man was likely hiding from the school’s custodian, who left around 9 p.m. and locked a gate behind him, deputies said.

At 11 p.m., deputies said the man came out of his hiding spot, cut the locks on three storage sheds with bolt cutters and stole equipment from inside.

He then cut the lock on the school gate to leave the school.

Surveillance video showed the man driving a four-door 2008-2013 Chevy Silverado with an apparent ‘Z-71’ decal on the rear panel, deputies said.

“There’s a toolbox in the front of the truck bed. The rims appear to be six-spoke, stock rims,” a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office said.

Anyone who recognizes the truck and/or knows the owner should call the Sheriff’s Office at (206) 296-3311 and reference case C20002533.
