Dense Fog Advisory from Bellingham to Chehalis causes flight delays

A dense fog advisory was in effect for the Puget Sound region Monday.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Sea-Tac Airport said it was temporarily suspending take offs and landings due to fog, which caused runway visual range to fall below 500 feet.

As of 10:45 a.m., the airport said flights had resumed but the airport was still under a fog advisory and travelers should check the status of their flights.

Flight status can be monitored at this link.

Monday morning, there is a temperature inversion layer over the area with cold, dense and foggy air trapped at the surface.

The advisory is in effect for King, Lewis, Snohomish and Thurston counties until 11 a.m.

Visibility is a quarter-mile or less.

The dense fog will result in poor driving conditions for the entire morning commute.

Though the advisory ends at 11 a.m., KIRO 7 PinPoint Meteorologist Nick Allard says it will likely still be foggy at lunchtime.

Seattle is in the mid-40s but Paradise Visitor Center is in the low-50s.  The fog will lift, but it will take a while into the afternoon before we see the sun move in.

Tuesday, we shouldn't see as much fog because a system offshore will move closer and keep the atmosphere a bit more mixed.  We'll see dry weather to start but by tomorrow evening around 7 p.m., we'll have some showers push through.  Highs will be around 60.

On Wednesday, we'll see a shower or two early, then a partly sunny and dry afternoon. Thursday looks rainy and breezy and then on Friday we'll just have a shower or two. Saturday look for increasing showers for the evening hours and then rain on Sunday.
