SEATTLE — A cockatoo bird named Peaches McFly was reunited with its owner Monday in the Capitol Hill area.

Seattle police say they were flagged down around 11:30 p.m. by a concerned citizen who informed them a white bird was “hanging out on a car in the area and appeared stranded.”

No one in the area immediately claimed the bird. Police said an online search for recently lost birds in Seattle revealed a post about a missing cockatoo named Peaches McFly.

Peaches' owner, Taryn Smethers, said the post about Peaches being lost is an old listing. Taryn said she and Peaches were at Cal Anderson Park ahead of the bird's likely "car surfing."

The bird was coaxed into a patrol car by Seattle officers and Taryn was contacted via Instagram.

"I drove over to meet them, we chatted, Peaches played with them, they took some selfies and had a good time until they got a call and had to leave," Taryn said.

When the cockatoo was returned, its owner informed them that “Peaches, like that other McFly, sometimes “car surfs” on slow-moving vehicles to travel about the East Precinct.”
