Business building unique fundraiser inside Cascade Mall for families of shooting victims

A month after a man armed with a rifle walked into the Macy’s inside Burlington's Cascade Mall a private business has a plan to support the families of the five people killed.

Dutch Bihary is an internationally renowned artist specializing in 3-D and body paint. Between overseas travel and starring on reality shows like “Skin Wars,” Dutch and his wife just opened a storefront in the Cascade mall --  30 feet from the Macy’s.

“I unfortunately was away—or fortunately I was away—during the tragedy,” Dutch told us.

Dutch and his wife Brecky are new to the mall, but not the community.

Like everyone in it, they’re hurting and they want to help. So Dutch asked the mall if they had extra space, and he’s putting together a 3-D kid-friendly “experience” in just a matter of days.

“It’s 2,000 square feet of winding trail of 3-D attraction and they’ll put on their 3-D glasses and everything will literally come out of the wall at them,” Dutch explained as he walked us through the maze, lit by black-lights and painted with special paint that makes the images appear to pop out at you when you’re outfitted with the glasses.

Dutch knew he couldn’t do it alone, so he put out a call for help on Facebook and people responded.

“I obviously jumped at it—it’s not every day I get to use my unique skill set of building attractions like this for something that’s so—such a worthwhile cause,” said Jody Bossert, who builds haunted houses.

A dollar from every ticket sold goes to a fund for the shooting victims.

“We can have another thing for the mall to help recover a little bit, draw some more people in and have something for the kids to do during the season that’s safe and not scary, and then we can give back to  the families—so it was just a win-win-win,” Dutch concluded.

Dutch says the goal is to have the attraction open by this weekend. It only costs $4, and they plan to keep it operating until January.
