A Tukwila family is hoping someone will recognize the burglar in their surveillance video or recognize a stolen engagement ring if they spot it online.
Rich Ward said he came home for lunch on Monday and didn’t realize a burglar had been in his house until he spotted several things rummaged through and askew.
He checked the surveillance video and realized that the burglar ran out of the home’s back door just ten seconds before Rich got to the front door.
“I think that he heard me pull up and that’s when he decided to take off,” he said.
“[He] took a lot of electronics,” he said, “speakers, tablets.” The thief also took the Jordans Rich wore in his wedding last July to his wife Flor and the money their 13-year-old and nine-year-old daughters had saved.
But most importantly, his wife’s engagement ring was missing. She hadn’t worn it to work that day.
“I just can’t described the feeling—like somebody just punched me in the stomach,” Flor Ward said.
She said her husband proposed with a different, smaller ring, then later, surprised her with the larger ring.
“What hurts me the most is I know how hard he worked to save for that money to get me that ring,” she said.
It couldn't come at a worse time. They are saving to buy the house they've been renting.
And they just discovered their homeowner's policy doesn't cover her jewelry.
“It means everything to me,” she said. “I just want the ring back.”
The Wards and their landlord are offering a $1000 reward for the return of the ring or information that leads to the man who has it.
They're asking people to contact Tukwila police.
