Body recovered from Banks Lake believed to be Auburn man

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — A body believed to be that of a missing Auburn man was recovered Friday morning from Banks Lake near Coulee City, officials with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Authorities said the body, believed to be that of 21-year-old Dmytro Y. Demchuk, was found around 8 a.m. by a fisherman who called law enforcement. Demchuk had been missing since Aug. 30 and was last seen jumping into the lake from a boat.

Divers, deputies in boats and airplanes, and Demchuk’s family searched for him for several days, according to authorities.

The sheriff’s marine unit recovered the body and took it to the coroner’s office, who will determine the manner of death and the man’s identity.
