Beth’s Cafe shutting its doors temporarily

SEATTLE — The Seattle landmark, Beth’s Cafe, announced Friday plans to close temporarily for three to six months, or until COVID-19 is under control.

In a Facebook post, Beth’s said they would be open through Labor Day, but after modifying their hours they said business hasn’t been fruitful enough to make staying open financially viable.

“We did our best,” their Facebook post said.

Beth’s thinks people weren’t aware they had reopened after their previous COVID-19 closing and the change from opening 24 hours to a schedule may have been a factor.

Their plan is to reopen in three to six months or whenever COVID-19 is under control.

Located on Aurora Avenue North near Green Lake, Beth’s Café opened in 1954 as a nickel slot gambling parlor and shortly transitioned into a restaurant.

Using more than 450,000 eggs per year, Beth’s breakfast food accounts for the majority of their business.

Beth’s is known primarily for a 12-egg omelet challenge that was featured in a 2009 episode of Man v. Food.

The host, Adam Richman, was not able to finish the omelet.
