Bellingham woman wakes to unknown man next to her in bed

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A young woman in Bellingham awoke Saturday morning to a strange man in her bedroom, police say.

Officers said the woman initially told them the man had entered her home through an unlocked front door. Later, she found a bathroom window propped open on the ground floor, which may have been the man’s entry and/or exit point.

The man walked into the woman’s bedroom and laid down on her bed.

The woman yelled at him and he fled from the home along Billy Frank Jr. Drive without assaulting anyone or attempting to assault anyone, police said.

The man was not located. Police describe him as white, around 20 years old and 200 pounds, with short, light brown hair. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a baseball hat. Police say the man smelled of alcohol and cologne.

Police ask residents of Bellingham to remain vigilant and ensure their residences are secured.

An investigation is ongoing.
