Bat found at Woodinville park

Health officials are looking for people who may have had contact with a bat at a park in Woodinville.

The bat was found by staff at about 6:30 a.m. Friday in the men's restroom at Cottage Lake Park.

Officials said park staff released the bat and it is unknown if the bat had rabies.

Park staff told health officials the bat may have been handled by one or more people.

The bat may have been in the restroom overnight and it may have come in contact with people visiting the park Thursday.

Officials said more than 160 people were at the park Thursday night for a concert.

Anyone who believes they had contact with the bat, is asked to call King County Public Health at 206-296-4774 or seek medical evaluation immediately.

“Rabies is treatable if caught before symptoms appear, so identifying anyone who has had contact as soon as possible is important," said Dr. Jeff Duchin, Health Officer for Public Health – Seattle & King County. "Contact includes touching a bat, being bitten, scratched, or any other bare skin contact with a bat or its saliva."
