Air quality dips to unhealthy in some areas due to calm weather and fireworks smoke

Calm weather and light winds around the Puget Sound mean fireworks smoke is going to stick around in the low levels of the atmosphere into Tuesday morning.

As of 10:30 a.m., air quality readings were running from moderate to unhealthy in most areas while some spots in the South Sound and Snohomish County were reading unhealthy to hazardous air quality.

According to purpleair.com, the worst areas appear to be Bellevue, Mercer Island, Renton and Puyallup.

Those who are sensitive to poor air quality and smoke would do best to stay indoors until Tuesday morning.

By mid-late morning Tuesday, we should see some mixing of the low-level air as temperatures warm and air quality improves.

Expect a mix of clouds and sun Tuesday but a slight chance of a passing shower late in the day.

Highs will still be closer to average – in the 70s for most.

We still have a slight chance of rain in the forecast for Wednesday and even early Thursday as weak weather disturbances move across the area, and we’ll keep a mix of clouds and sunshine.

Highs will stay in the 60s to low 70s.

By Friday into next weekend, we should have a bit more sunshine with highs in the 70s. There will be a chance of getting back to 80 degrees in Seattle by next Monday.
