6-year-old boy struck by car in Port Orchard

Ambulance

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — A 6-year-old boy was struck by car as he was crossing the street to go to school in Port Orchard Thursday.

The South Kitsap School District said the school bus was approaching the bus stop at 8:30 a.m. when an oncoming car struck the student as he was crossing Bethel Burley Road Southeast near Kira Lane Road.

The woman driving the car saw the boy, who deputies say suddenly entered the street, and slammed on the brakes, but the car skidded and struck the boy.

The boy’s mother was at the scene and accompanied her son in an aid car to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver pulled over and remained at the scene to speak with police.
