$5,000 fine for plaintiff's lawyer in Mayor Murray sex abuse lawsuit

A King County judge has levied a $5,000 fine against Lincoln Beauregard, the lawyer representing Delvon Heckard in his child sex abuse lawsuit against Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.

Murray has denied Heckard’s lawsuit that claims Murray paid Heckard for sex in the 1980s.

“There are rules of professional conduct that govern trial publicity,” said King County Superior Court Judge Veronica Alicea-Galvan.

Murray's lawyers say Beauregard violated those rules and asked her to impose sanctions.

They point to the public filing of a subpoena for the complete police report of an incident at Murray's house last year. Murray's lawyers say there is no connection between that incident and the sex abuse lawsuit.

They also cite a public filing of the declaration of the fourth man to accuse Murray of paying for sex.

The judge was hard on Beauregard.

“The court finds troubling not only the subject matter of the filings proffered by the plaintiff but the manner in which this occurred...for the sole purpose and apparently intent of generating publicity that has the potential of prejudicing the administration of justice,” she said.

She ordered Beauregard to stop and slapped him with a $5,000 fine.

“I'll write a check and we'll go fight the case on the merits and you all can cover it,” said Beauregard after court was adjourned

Beauregard will appeal the fine when the lawsuit against Murray is over, he said, adding he will stand up for “the constitution, we think that the law supports our ability to file documents and your ability to access them.”
