3.2 magnitude earthquake strikes near Bellingham

The earthquake struck in the Sudden Valley area, 9 miles east of Bellingham.

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash — A 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night about 9 miles east of Bellingham, in the Sudden Valley area.

While the earthquake was likely not large enough to cause any damage, lots of residents are reporting to KIRO 7 that they felt it.

“I felt it here in Bellingham. I heard a loud rumble, then my home shook for about 5 seconds,” said Holly Orban.

Laura Fraser reported “Bellingham, Lake Samish - loud rumble, whole house shook and second floor swayed.”

Adrienne Williamson said “We felt it in Sudden Valley, it was loud, like something slammed the house. Both cats flew off their beds!”

“It rattled a door here in South Bellingham. Pretty violent, but brief,” said Marinus Van de Kamp.
