A pair of moose on the loose caused a major backup Friday morning on I-90 in Spokane County.
Traffic officials said crews had to shut down both directions close to the Appleway Avenue exit near Liberty Lake after reports of two moose getting close to the freeway.
The traffic backup was about two miles long.
Troopers performed a rolling slowdown to move the moose away from I-90.
One of WSDOT’s Twitter accounts said the moose were hiding in bushes at one point.
Unfortunately, the moose on the loose is causing significant backups to I-90. Traffic is stopped on I-90 just west of the Appelway interchange and traffic in both directions is backed up roughly 2 miles on either side. https://t.co/fbYXeDk8Cv

At about 8:45 a.m., WSDOT reopened both directions of I-90.
With several people hitting the roads for Memorial Day weekend, transportation officials are asking drivers to be patient and to expect delays.
