17-year-old denied candidacy for district school board

SULTAN, Wash. — After months of research and preparation, a 17-year-old Sultan High School student filed with the Snohomish County Auditor's Office to run for his district's school board.

But there's a problem. Just before the filing period ended, the auditor's office told him he has to be 18 by the filing date. Jordan Sears' birthday is July 9.

Jordan had been working with the auditor's office to find a solution that allows him to still get to throw his hat into the ring.
