1 teen dead, 2 in critical after being found unresponsive at Lake Stevens

Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue confirm a 13-year-old teen boy has died after by drowning at Davies Beach in Lake Stevens. A 12-year-old and 15-year-old are in critical condition.

They were all taken to Providence Regional Medical Center, where officials say the 13-year-old died. Family tells KIRO7 the two survivors will be transferred to Harborview Medical Center.

“We don’t ever want to see this. And we want to get the message out there again to be cautious in the water,” Peter Mongillo with Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue said.

Mongillo says there were over a hundred people at the swimming spot when they arrived on scene. He says with summer here, it’s important for everyone, especially parents, to keep their eyes on the water.

“So, if you could imagine hundreds and hundreds of heads bobbing, you know, sometimes it’s hard to keep track of every single kid here. That’s why if you are here supervising your child, you (should) keep account of your children,” Mongillo said.

Mongillo says it’s vital for everyone, especially children, to wear life jackets when swimming in lakes. He says they can make the difference between life and death.

“You are cool wearing a life jacket. Don’t think you don’t look cool wearing a life jacket,” Mongillo said.
