Lakewood school locked down during gunman search

Police in Lakewood are responding to reports of a man with a gun running near the Clover Park Technical College campus.

The incident began about 11:30 a.m. and the man with a gun was seen running after a white car. Police from Tacoma, Lakewood and the Pierce County Sheriff’s office responded.

“The last information we received was that the person with the gun was possibly headed westbound,” Lakewood Lieutenant Chris Lawler said in a statement. “LPD units responded quickly, but the described vehicle and the person with the weapon was not located.”

The campus perimeter was secured and the school went into a lockdown. No other reports were received on the location of the vehicle or the man with the gun.

“Some information was received that there may have been some sort of a disturbance on campus that resulted in a person pulling a gun and a white vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed with a door open,” Lawler said. “As a precaution, police units are searching every building on campus to make sure that the person with the weapon is not hiding somewhere or still on campus.”

Police said about 1 p.m. they think the suspect and vehicle fled before police arrived. The investigation is ongoing.
