JBLM soldier killed during training exercise in Calif.

JBLM officials said 23-year-old Pfc. Andrew J. Sass was killed at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif.
FORT IRWIN, Calif. —

A Joint Base Lewis-McCord solider was killed Saturday during a training exercise in California.

 JBLM officials said 23-year-old Pfc. Andrew J. Sass was killed at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin.

 Sass is a 2-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 7th Infantry Division soldier and he was an infantryman assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment.

 "[This is] a true loss to the Lancer team. He was a husband, warrior, and true friend to all. He will be missed, but we will not forget him," said Col. Cmdr. of the 2-2 SBCT  Louis A. Zeisman,

 Sass was originally from Fremont, North Carolina.                                                                       

 The incident remains under investigation.
