Jay Inslee sworn in as new Washington governor

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Jay Inslee has been sworn in to office as the state's new governor and gave his inaugural speech.

Inslee takes the helm of the state just days after the start of the 105-day legislative session. He succeeds Gov. Chris Gregoire, who gave her final "state of the state" speech on Tuesday.

He takes office facing a nearly $1 billion deficit for the next two-year budget, not counting money needed to satisfy a court requirement on education funding.

Inslee has said taxes are off the table and that he wants to focus on making government more efficient to get more results out of the resources that the state currently has.
