Former PTA president investigated on theft, forgery charges

BREMERTON, Wash. — A former PTA president and Bremerton School Board candidate was arrested Friday afternoon as part of a theft and forgery investigation.

Bremerton police have been conducting an investigation into the finances of the Naval Avenue Elementary PTA. Wendy O. Stevens, the former PTA president, had control of the bank accounts for the PTA during 2012 and the first half of 2013, investigators said.

Stevens did not make a statement to police and requested an attorney, police said. The crimes she's being investigated for are felonies.

"Our detectives completed a comprehensive and objective investigation and this is where the facts led," Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan said in a statement.

Stevens is expected to make her first court appearance Monday afternoon.
