Former JBLM Soldier Sentenced to 13 ½ Years for Wife's manslaughter

TACOMA, Wash. — Skylar Nemetz was sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison on Friday for killing his 19-year old wife, Danielle Nemetz, in October of 2014.

This was the maximum sentence possible.

The former JBLM solider was convicted of manslaughter in early March.

Because of Nemetz’s expertise with weapons, Pierce County Superior Judge Jack Nevin called the shooting an extreme example of recklessness, so Nevin sentenced Nemetz to the maximum sentence allowed by law.

Just minutes before learning how long he’ll be behind bars, Nemetz tearfully apologized to his dead wife’s family.  “I’m sorry to everyone here that witnessed this, and had to go through all of this,” the 21-year old said.

However, his wife’s sister did not accept it.

Nemetz admitted he killed his wife, but called it an accident.

Despite the manslaughter verdict, her family still believes it was premeditated murder.
