Flames devour kitchen of SeaTac home

SEATAC, Wash. — A SeaTac home’s kitchen was destroyed early Monday when a family was awakened by the smell of smoke and found a fire.

Firefighters from SeaTac, Tukwila and Kent were called to the fire at the home in the 16800 block of 37th Avenue South at 2:40 a.m.

Fire officials said the family first tried to put out the flames on their own but were unable to get the fire under control.

Everyone was able to get out safely.

The entire home suffered smoke damage and damage by water and fire was limited to the kitchen.

Investigators estimated the damage to be about $40,000.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.

The Red Cross is working with the family to provide them temporary housing and other necessities.
